Not if that charlatan Barry Zito has anything to say about it. The Giants are actually two games over .500 in games where that loser hasn't pitched. They will have a shot if they can keep they keep overachieving and they shut Zito down for some sort of phantom injury or something.

Agreed. I loved Zito when he was with the A's, but now - ay-yi-yi. Time to send him down, or send him away, or send him anywhere but back out to the mound.

For his sake, he should be sent FAR, FAR AWAY from the Bay Area. As loyal Giants fans, we should all, if we happen to see Barry Zito in public, do our best to make his life a living hell. If you work at a restaurant where he's eating, SPIT IN HIS FOOD. If you happen to spot him walking by on the street, BOO HIM. For shrinking this badly once he became a Giant for the percentage of their total payroll they are shelling out for him, we should all make sure that Barry Zito is treated like a pariah and once his career his over, he will NEVER be welcome as a citizen of San Francisco.

Yeah, I know it's a little over the top, but I really feel like Zito and the quality of his quality mixed with the length of his contract is going to make it that much more likely that I will never see the Giants win a world series within my lifetime.

Now now. I just got off jury duty and our case was a frivolous lawsuit that was just a big waste of time.

At least they've yanked Zero Zito from the starting line-up and given Misch a shot.

I wouldn't call payin' a guy $126m to go 0-6 frivolous. Hell, I can go 0-6 and I'll do it for 1/2 that much! Wasn't serious abt the CAL, but ferkryinowtlowd Mr. Zit!

Seriously, though, no one should EVER say "Poor Barry" about our dead armed Mr. Zito. Despite what anyone says about "well, wouldn't you take the money if a team was offering you that kind of jack", Barry had to have also been out to really chisel as much money out of a team as possible to have a guy like Scott Boras representing him. That guy (Boras) is infamous for bending GMs over the stoop and pounding them up the pooter. And I have heard of plenty of guys who, instead of travelling elsewhere, gave a local team a local discount. Face it...as much as Sabean and/or (depending on who you talk to regarding who was truly for this deal) Macgowan were foolish for giving Zito that contract, Zito and Boras also did their damndest to chisel as much money out of the Giants, who were desperate to do something last year, as possible. Don't portray him as being innocent. He sold himself as being worth $126 mil and is putting up performances worthy of maybe minimum wage at best.

Well, maybe, but I still like the guy and feel for any athlete who has lost his fire. Money aside, it's gotta hurt the old pride. But that's just me.

Of course, and I agree V.

There's much more to this than greed--there almost always is. Zito wants to pitch well and can't for whatever reason. In the absence of a clear-cut explanation most sports fans will fill in the blank, in an attempt to find that reason--sometimes accurately, most times not.

Baryy Zito isn't a bad guy--he's a fantastic pitcher, but his arm is indeed dead, at least for the moment. The Giants overbid for him, to be sure. Scott Borris didn't have to pound anyone up the pooter...he didn't even have to break a sweat.

For the record, if I was picking an agent to represent me and get the most that there was to get for a contact, I'd pick Borris in a heartbeat over a 'nice guy.' That's just sensible business.

Meantime, the intangibles about baseball are what makes it magic. The things that thrill us and give us joy when a guy does something wonderful come from the same magic that confounds and frustrates us when a guy who used to walk on water seems to go south.

If I felt he was goldbricking, I'd say 'fuck him' but that's not the case. I think he wants to do well and may yet. Or not. We'll see.

            Jen

Well said, Ms. Gas, as always.

I am impressed with the fire of this team so far. Nobody picked them to be anything but last, The DBs are running away with the Division, and yet this mix of geezers and rooks is show surprising grit.

And that and a hill full of beans will get ya.....yeah yeah, I know.
