did you see me? i was on the field, holding a 22 foot pole with red and white stripes on it. always a treat to be on the field.
good game, everything one could ask for in terms of weather, offense, and middle relief. and we just knew a young pitcher with a great future in front of him was going to get the 'W,' only we didn't know it was joe martinez.
sandoval at third is a work in progress, but as long as he keeps up that 324 hit pace i can live with it. great to see rowand beat his september rbi total with one swing of the bat.
speaking of rbis, how about the giants new defensive RBI: Renteria to Burris to Ishikawa.
at one point fans started an organic 'let's go giants!' chant, but it was soon drowned out by canned scoreboard cheerleading. don't they know enough to shut up every now and then? (of course i know the answer to that).
going again tonight. should be interesting to see how the depression affects the second game's crowd. over at candlestick they'd be lucky to get 15,000 for the second game of the season.
go giants!

Re: Opening Day
Wed, April 8, 2009 - 2:09 PMI'm going tonight as well. Looking forward to seeing how the "Big Unit" does. There was an article on the Giants' site yesterday about how Johnson may be the last of the 300 game winners. -

Re: Opening Day
Wed, April 8, 2009 - 2:15 PMi hate that 'last of' shit. the thing with 300 game winners, you don't know who they are until they string together a bunch of 15 or so wins for a dozen or so years, with maybe an 18 or 20 or two for good measure.
somebody is going to win 300 after the big ugly.
somebody is going to hit .400.
lou gehrig's record is a perfect example, held up as unassailable: until cal ripkin broke it. now they'll say the same thing about ripkin's mark.
(speaking of johnson, not sure how great a baseball move it is (though i really like how much he seems to enjoy being here), but i'm certainly looking forward to seeing him pitch.) -

Except that with the way teams handle their starters nowadays, where six innings is considered a "quality start," and you have to depend on the bullpen to save the game it's hard to imagine any pitcher getting 20 wins. I think what one or two pitchers in both leagues actually won 20 last season.

Yeah when all of us are about 90 and can't remember who the hell baseball players were..lol.

Yes well when he wasn't giving up dingers (esp that 3 run blast to the Brewers pitcher), he looked pretty good tonight. :p
